MinistRy Team News

Education Team

The Education team would like to thank all that came to our Sunday School Celebration in February and heard about Josiah. We will all miss the Prill family and wish them well in their new adventures.

We have decided to put on another Holy Land Adventure this year. This time the marketplace will be based in Rome where Paul and the Underground Church were active. We will be performing this series on Wednesday evenings starting July 22nd. These are intended for all ages and we encourage families to attend. We will need many of you to put this on show. We will need Shopkeepers, Gamesmen, Restaurant Workers and you drama types.  Most importantly, we will need people to help organize, design, build, recruit, advertise, cook, paint, and probably more things we haven’t even thought of yet. Rome wasn’t built in a day, so please join us March 8th after church to start the planning process and get this party started!

Finance Team

Our general fund A has again dropped into the negative numbers as predicted at last month’s meeting.  This is due to two late bills from 2008, arriving in Jan., a third pay period this month and the usual low contribution that occur in Jan. and Feb.  This caused a deficit of $6100 for the month and a balance of -$4000.  I am hopeful that Feb and March will be better months and reduce this deficit.

The annual audit is being prepared now and the team will meet in March to approve it.

Nurture-Outreach Team

 At our February meeting we packed 14 boxes of Valentine candy for mailing to college students who are in or have had a close relationship with NOUMC.

This team received several notes of thanks from various “community service” groups who expressed their appreciation for our supplying monetary donations as well as gifts of non-perishable food items during December 2008. We thank God for making those resources available for us to share with those in need.

Once again, Cathy Molino will be taking orders for daffodils to raise monies for the American Cancer Society. Daffodil Sunday will be March 22, 2009.

We’re looking ahead to spring and more opportunities to serve the Lord in nurturing, outreaching activities.

·         Help!  We are looking for volunteers to help with work to be done at the parsonage. The projects include:

Stripping wallpaper

Painting

Installing an exhaust fan in the bathroom

Installing a new kitchen sink

Installing a new range hood in the kitchen

Pressure washing and staining the deck

We hope to get started the first week in March and complete the inside work by the end of the month.

We are looking into options for flooring and that will be done after the other work is completed.

Please see one of the Trustees if you can help.

·         We have installed a condensation pump on the furnace adjacent to the preschool classroom.  This should take care of the wet carpet problem in the classrooms. Note:  On cold days when the furnace is running for extended periods of time you may hear a new sound of this pump occasionally running for a few seconds.

Worship Team

     We are planning several Lenten activities and services with Pastor Bill.  We are excited to have a Bible Study that will be every Wednesday in Lent.  We will be offering a Healing/Communion time prior to the regular services in Lent.  We hope you will feel led to come in at 9:15-9:30 for this special Healing time.  Adult Sunday School is in session after that and we hope you might take the opportunity to join them.

     We hope that the Lenten season is a meaningful time for you and that your spiritual life is enriched.

Esther, Glen and Thomas Hardman

     The announcement was made by Staff-Parish Relations co-chairs Reg Higgins and Ed Kushall Sunday, February 8.

      District Superintendent Ted Anderson introduced Glen, his wife Esther, and their son, Thomas, to the Staff-Parish Relations Team at a specially called meeting of the Team the preceding day. During that meeting the Hardmans and the representatives of the church had opportunity to get to know each other somewhat and to share visions for Christ’s ministry at Brick Church. All were in agreement that Glen is both sent and called to be the pastor of North Ontario United Methodist Church. The needs of the church and the gifts of Pastor Glen seem to match.

      Glen grew up in Eatontown, New Jersey. Following college he was a store manager for CVS and while working there was led into a “heart-changing” encounter with Christ. He was later called to pursue full-time ordained ministry and entered Eastern Baptist Seminary in Phila­delphia, Pennsylvania.

      It was while in seminary that Esther and Glen met. Esther grew up in Pennsylvania and was graduated from Waynesburg College. After college graduation she worked at a Baptist retreat / conference center in Wisconsin one summer and then went to Arizona where she was a mission worker. Following her two year commitment she entered Eastern Baptist Seminary where she also earned her Master of Divinity degree. While in seminary she served as an assistant chaplain for a United Methodist related continuing care retirement / nursing home. Glen served as an assistant to the pastor of a Presbyterian church in Springfield, Pennsylvania.

      Following seminary the Hardman couple was called to a Baptist church in Brookings, South Dakota. It was there that their son Thomas was born. The next call came to them from the Baptist church in Springville, New York. It was while there, and after meeting one of the pastors in the Western New York Conference of the United Methodist Church that Pastor Hardman began pursuing the possibility of becoming an Elder in the United Methodist Church. He served the mandatory two year probationary period as pastor of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in West Valley. After ordination as an Elder he was appointed to Eden United Methodist Church where he is serving in an interim capacity following a long-term pastorate.

      Growing up as a Roman Catholic Glen had heard much about Jesus, but in the Protestant churches he began to experience first hand a personal savior – an experience which he likens unto Wesley’s Aldersgate experience. The Methodist movement has captured the heart, the mind, and the soul of Glen Hardman.

      You will want to know more about the uniqueness and the excitement of his spirit journey and the journey that he and Esther have shared. Their son Thomas is in sixth grade. Pastor Glen will visit North Ontario United Methodist Church as time permits and meet briefly with various individuals and groups during this transition period. They plan to move into the parsonage during the last two weeks of June.

Bill Burdick will lead the meetings.

Bill will have handouts available for the Parish Council and SPPR members on Sunday January 18th.
